Green light for Jet ConneX wi-fi on G550

The FAA has awarded an STC enabling the installation of Honeywell’s JetWave antenna and terminal on Gulfstream G550 jets, for access to Inmarsat’s Jet ConneX wi-fi service.

Jet ConneX is based on Inmarsat’s Ka-band satellite network, offering global coverage with data plans up to 15Mbps.

The STC is the result of more than a year of development and testing. The first G550 installations are now underway. Gulfstream, Inmarsat and Honeywell are cooperating on in-service evaluation and final terminal type approval.

“Honeywell worked closely with Gulfstream to successfully integrate the JetWave hardware into the existing G550 architecture,” said Warren Nechtman, vice president of connected aircraft systems at Honeywell. “However, the real credit goes to the Gulfstream team who worked expeditiously to bring Jet ConneX to their customers. They did it in record time.”
