Gulfstream’s G700 business jet has set a new Los Angeles to Farnborough city pair speed record, completing the 4,740nm (8,778km) route in 8 hours 27 minutes from takeoff to touchdown. The flight beat the previous record by 19 minutes. Gulfstream president Mark Burns commented on the aircraft’s real-world performance.
Gulfstream Aerospace Corp., based in Savannah, Georgia, has set a new city pair speed record between Los Angeles and Farnborough, England, flying the distance in a Gulfstream G700 business jet, registration N702GD.
The aircraft covered 4,740 nautical miles (8,778km) in 8 hours and 27 minutes from takeoff to touchdown, departing Los Angeles International Airport and landing at Farnborough Airport. Gulfstream says the flight beat the most recent record by 19 minutes, a 3.6% improvement.
The company notes that its city pair records, including this one, are measured from takeoff to touchdown rather than using other timing methods.
According to Mark Burns, president at Gulfstream, “True aviation speed and distance records are measured from takeoff to touchdown, and this achievement reflects exactly the kind of performance our customers experience every day.”
The flight adds to a series of city pair records set by Gulfstream’s next-generation aircraft family.

The G700 cabin includes 20 Gulfstream Panoramic Oval windows, providing natural light throughout the cabin, along with 100% fresh air and what Gulfstream describes as the industry’s lowest cabin altitude at high elevations.
The aircraft has a maximum range of 7,750nm (14,353km) at Mach 0.85, or 6,650nm (12,316km) at Mach 0.90, and a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.935.
