A new Working Arrangement on Airworthiness Certification (WA-AC) has been signed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The aim is to reduce the cost of regulatory compliance, encourage business opportunities and ease the sharing of work practices and safety oversight information.
Under the new reciprocal arrangement, the two parties will validate and accept each other’s design certifications and approvals for aircraft parts, modifications and repairs. Design Organisation Approval (DOA) holders will be able to operate in both jurisdictions without duplicate CAAS and EASA approvals.
Companies including ST Aerospace welcomed the move.
“As ST Aerospace grows its engineering, design and manufacturing business such as aircraft interiors and seats, reciprocal arrangements on certification between CAAS and EASA will help to shorten the time taken to commercialize new solutions or products, which is important when competing in a fast-paced, global aviation market,” said Dr Yip Yuen Cheong, executive vice president of aerospace engineering and manufacturing, ST Aerospace.
