AAR has been selected by Vision Systems to integrate electronically dimmable window (EDW) solutions for retrofit programs in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and North America. Vision Systems’ customized solutions replace the entire inside window, including the casing and dust panel. The systems have no moving parts; the electronics are fully integrated. They can be applied to flat or curved surfaces, plastic and composite glass. The installation, wiring and STC will be managed by AAR, as well as maintenance and customer support.
Vision Systems’ EDWs are based on suspended particle device (SPD) technology. Passengers can regulate daylight, glare and heat by dimming their windows instantly from clear to dark and to any level in between. The solutions default to their darkest possible state when the aircraft is on the ground, to keep the interior cool. The EDWs are available in multi-zone mode, in different tints. There is also a partition solution, which can transform from transparent to opaque white.
