Cobham Satcom and Avionica join forces for Inmarsat’s SB-S

Cobham Satcom and Avionica are bringing Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband-Safety (SB-S) to the business jet market. The solution uses Cobham’s Aviator 300D satcom and Avionica’s avWIFI intelligent router to provide simultaneous cockpit and cabin communications over a single channel of SwiftBroadband. Safety and non-safety-related voice and data connectivity are segregated.

“With its fuselage-mounted intermediate gain antenna, the Aviator 300D will provide a connectivity option to operators at a price point well below historical high-gain antenna solutions and offer more connectivity flexibility than other systems,” said Scott Beutel, regional director for Cobham Satcom.

Integration testing has been completed and Cobham Satcom is “evaluating STC opportunities for key aircraft types” – including Dassault Falcon, Bombardier Challenger and Gulfstream models.
