Dave Ogle, owner of JetPedic, explains how the company’s aircraft mattress beds, and related products, respond to industry requirements

What will you be exhibiting at NBAA-BACE?

We will show our custom, hand-measured-to-size aircraft mattress beds, including the popular club seat with fold-down back and club seat with pop-up unit for single-seat conversions, and a conference bed and sofa/divan bed for larger seating/table area conversions.

We also offer customized black bags to carry the mattress beds on/off the aircraft, in lieu of carrying a heavy suitcase. In addition to our customized mattress beds, we offer fine linens and bedding that can be customized to fit each aircraft mattress bed.

How do your products meet customers’ requirements?

We convert aircraft seats into luxury mattress beds. Our mattresses contour to the uneven shapes of tables and chairs lying flat, making them into low-profile sleeping areas that provide all the comforts of home. All our mattresses are low profile and lightweight, with custom hinge folds that enable quick deployment, easy assembly and compact storage.

Our beds can be vacuum-packed to reduce their size and are completely portable and easy to carry, folding down to a third of the size of the mattress when opened. They can be stored along with suitcases or inside our custom-made JetPedic bags.

If our custom JetPedic bags are utilized, they serve as a carry-on bag with tags identifying the bed size, and can be zipped up and strapped down to accommodate both full-size and vacuum-packed mattresses, allowing for easy set up and easy stowage on board.

JetPedic mattress beds also fit into a large suitcase. In addition, we offer a custom line of fine linens and bedding, including luxury Italian brands, that can all be customized to fit the aircraft mattress bed. This includes the addition of perfect-fit snaps, which ensure the sheets stay in place on the mattresses.

Our attention to detail and practicality make our sheets easy to put on and take off. Our Quick Stow sheets also offer convenience and customization. The sheets do not require immediate removal for storage. They are designed to be put on prior to air travel, as each mattress bed is air-compressed and vacuum-packed. The Quick Stow sheets fold with the tri-fold mattress and stay on the beds until after the flight, for easy removal and laundering purposes.

What aircraft types are your products available for?

Our mattress beds can be custom-made for all aircraft, including Gulfstream G400, G450, G550, G600 and G650 types. Customers include Arena TV Aviation/BBC, Black Rock, Dassault Falcon, Gama Aviation and Prime Jet.

What advances have you introduced from the domestic market?

We provide the same component features and comfort layer benefits found in brand-name mattresses for the home industry, but ours are completely customized to fit the specialized seats in private aircraft.

What were the challenges involved in doing this?

Learning how to measure the various seat types – in aircraft that vary in terms of cabin space and seating arrangements – proved to be a little challenging. Each size is different, even with aircraft of the same model. Determining custom sizing to fit uneven surfaces and table edges often requires a further adjustment to the mattress bed size.

How is demand evolving?

The biggest change in our part of the industry has been the production of bigger aircraft that go longer distances; the need for sleep is more pertinent. This has resulted in a need for comfortable beds and sleep solutions. Corporate teams, in addition to individuals, are traveling father and have the need for customized sleep solutions with custom mattresses and bedding.

Do you have any plans to expand the range or your services?

We would like to expand our services to include aircraft builders, manufacturers and suppliers – both domestic and international – in our clientele base. Looking ahead, we also want to grow more in the European and Asian markets as the industry continues to expand.
