New cabin management feature on Embraer’s Legacy 450 and Legacy 500

Embraer Executive Jets has unveiled a new technology for its Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 aircraft – the upper tech panel. It is a backlit touchscreen overhead panel that provides flight status information, ambient lighting and access to cabin controls.

The panel depicts, at a glance, just how far the aircraft is on a given journey, so the passenger never has to interrupt his or her activities to access the moving map. The backlit screen also shows the time to arrival, the current time at the departure and destination locations and altitude information. The panel provides additional LED halo mood lights and gives passengers overhead touchscreen access to lighting controls.

“The upper tech panel is just one example of how the passenger is at the nucleus of the design of the revolutionary Legacy 450 and Legacy 500,” said Jay Beever, vice president of interior design at Embraer Executive Jets. “This new feature demonstrates Embraer’s approach to the use of technology in interior design, in that it is both simple to use and disappears when not needed. We firmly believe the purpose of technology is to serve the user. The upper tech panel does just that by detecting passenger hand proximity and bringing a number of cabin management options directly to ones’ fingertips.”
