Divan for VIP Boeing 767-300ER developed in three weeks

Private jet charter airline, Aeronexus has further enhanced the passenger comfort of its VIP Boeing 767-300ER with the addition of a bespoke three-seater berthable divan. The divan neatly berths into a 91in-long by 35in-wide flat bed and is certified for 9G and 16G aircraft.

Having already overhauled, refurbished and certified 96 lie-flat seats for the VIP Boeing 767-300ER, Starling Aerospace, which supplied the divan, was able to quickly modify the standard design of the aluminum-framed divan for the aircraft, aided by its in-house production and certification capabilities under EASA 21J and 21G approvals. Using the same materials and foam which Starling already certified for the VIP Boeing 767-300ER also helped accelerate the project.

“Aeronexus had already displayed interest in our Berthable Divan, but an eminent high-profile booking presented an immediate demand for a bed on board. All the certification elements had already been addressed, and therefore we were well equipped to produce the divan within a three-week period,” stated Coralie Wigg, co-founder of Starling Aerospace.

To match the look and feel of the lie-flat seats, Starling Aerospace upholstered the berthable divan using cream-colored Ultraleather. To add further texture and contrast of color, tan Ultraleather was used for the bottom section of back rest and padding of the seat arms.

Aeronexus also required a flexible solution to creating a privacy area around the divan which would not be fixed to the floor. Using its in-house metal work capabilities, Starling developed a curtain divider with attachment points. Flame-retardant curtains were also created in-house by the cut and sew team.

“The aircraft already offers first class lie-flat seats, but having this discreet and private area fitted with a divan that converts to a comfortable bed is a valuable addition to our aircraft’s luxury passenger experience”, added Gareth Evans, head of sales and marketing at Aeronexus.
