Lufthansa Technik’s niceview goes mobile

At Aircraft Interiors Expo (held in Hamburg, Germany, on April 5-7, 2016), Lufthansa Technik is introducing niceview Mobile, an interactive system that lets passengers track their own flight live on their tablet or smartphone. The 3D moving map uses real satellite imagery. Passengers can select from a variety of customizable perspectives, with information including altitude, speed and travel time.

niceview Mobile can be integrated in standard IFE systems, and passengers can access it through the onboard wi-fi. It can run on iOS and Android devices.

“Until now, this level of directly experiencing one’s own flight was only available in the cabins of VIP aircraft in certain specially equipped seats,” said Andreas Pfister, lead project manager for the Original Equipment Innovation division at Lufthansa Technik. “Now passengers can take the fascination of flying into their own hands. Time after time, it is a very special feeling, even for us developers.”
