Lufthansa Technik wins Boeing 747-8 Ka-band work

Several Boeing 747-8 aircraft are to be fitted with a Ka-band broadband internet solution by Lufthansa Technik from 2018.

The company is currently fitting the technology on the A320 family for the Lufthansa Group, and holds STCs for the A330/A340 and Boeing 737 families. It also has STCs to install its Two-In-One-Solution (TIOS) antenna radome on BBJ1 (737-700) and BBJ2 (737-800) aircraft, enabling Ka-band internet and TV connections.

Lufthansa Technik says it can modify each aircraft in a maximum of four days, because it has minimized how much intervention is needed to the aircraft structure.
