Dishwasher unveiled by Lufthansa Technik

Under the guidance of Lufthansa Technik engineers, hs2 engineering has developed a dishwasher for use on aircraft – the Dishwashair. The product is already in production, and has been chosen by some of Lufthansa Technik’s VIP clients for their aircraft.

Lufthansa Technik says the unit can wash a load of dishes in six minutes with three liters of water. It can be installed in standard aircraft galleys and connected to the aircraft’s fresh and waste water or vacuum systems.

Baskets that fit in any standardized galley can be used to place dishes and silverware in the Dishwashair. The company says a single fill of two cleaning agents is enough for up to 40 wash cycles.

“Long-haul aircraft in particular take along lots of dishware, amounts that can be reduced considerably with clever logistics,” said Oliver Thomaschewski, head of seating and structures in the Original Equipment Innovation division at Lufthansa Technik.

“No normal household would keep a separate set of dishes for every meal. Now our Dishwashair makes it possible, even in an aircraft, to bring along only the amounts actually needed to provide service.”
