Approval for West Star’s apprenticeship programme

The United States Department of Labor has approved West Star Aviation’s aircraft maintenance technician (AMT) apprenticeship programme as a registered programme in Illinois.

Currently there are 37 apprentice AMTs, of which 73% are based in the company’s facility in Alton, Illinois. Moving forward, this allows West Star to be eligible for state grants, which can offset wages, tuition and other training costs. This registered programme will also allow for further growth with federal grants, such as the Aviation Workforce Development Grant that was recently approved by congress.

“We are honoured to be approved for this exciting new programme,” said Katie Johnson, vice president of human resources. “This opportunity will allow us to continue to grow and expand the AMT workforce.”

West Star Aviation specialises in the repair and maintenance of airframes, engines and APUs, avionics installations and repairs, major modifications, interior refurbishment, exterior paint, surplus avionics sales, accessory services and parts.
