BBJ 737-700 completion

Ron Soret explains how Aeria Luxury Interiors recently completed a custom BBJ 737-700 months ahead of schedule for a head-of-state customer

What is the background to this project?
I, and several key members of my staff, have a long history with the client and have completed several successful projects for them. For this programme, the customer elected for a traditional interior styled similarly to their existing fleet of VIP aircraft, but with a more up-to-date design, which Aeria successful executed.

What partners did you work with?
We worked with a number of suppliers including Astronics Custom Control Concepts for the CMS/IFE system, Streamline Aircraft Interiors for some of the cabinetry and finish work, and Boeing for the Sky Interior, which is installed in the aft cabin.

What was your workscope?
A full green cabin completion with an open layout and seating to accommodate a large number of staff, including private quarters for the prin-cipal.

What’s the most special thing about this interior?
The design, material selections and cabin layout were made to support the operation of the aircraft for a head of state. In particular, the carpet was custom-made and hand-woven to our customer’s explicit requirements and then imported for installation.

What was the most technically challenging aspect of the project?
The installation of the Boeing Sky Interior in the aft portion of the aircraft. The area where the VIP portion of the cabin ends and the Sky Interior begins was a real challenge. This resulted in some complex modifications to the Sky Interior and some highly customised ceiling and sidewall panels at the point of transition.

Were there any certification challenges?
No. We anticipated likely certification challenges early on in the programme and developed solutions for each approach ahead of time, creating a smooth transition throughout the build. Overall this was a very smooth project for the Aeria team.

How did you complete the project months ahead of schedule?
We have developed some very good metrics for tracking programme status, as well as very robust and repeatable processes that drive efficiency. Very proactive monitoring and management of the supply chain is also a key factor. Collectively, our key staff are some of the most experienced in VIP completions, which has greatly contributed to our success in delivering programmes as promised or ahead of schedule, further offering clients the luxury of experience when choosing Aeria Luxury Interiors.
