In May 2017, Coventry University will open a postgraduate design facility intended to “contribute to the long-term competitiveness of the UK’s aerospace industry”.
“Our aim is to meet demand for specialized skills, building on Coventry University’s existing expertise in transport design with a range of new courses and research programs,” said David Wright, director of strategic initiatives at Coventry University.
“Not only that, but we’ll be ensuring the center is open for business for companies in the wider transport sector – including automotive, rail, marine and aerospace – to work with us to help them grow.”
Equipment at the National Transport Design Centre (NTDC) will include a 6m interactive ‘power wall’ for exploring concepts in virtual reality; a projection mapping system for transposing digital images on to 3D objects; clay-milling facilities; precision CNC milling machines; 3D printing technologies; and wearable devices to support the creation of virtual, augmented and mixed reality environments.
