STC for Skandia’s PC-12 acoustic soundproofing kit

An acoustic soundproofing kit that Skandia says achieves an overall sound reduction of 4dB (SIL) on the Pilatus PC-12 – and approximately 6dB (SIL) in some cabin seating areas – has been granted STC approval by the FAA.

“The PC-12 is a great aircraft and owners are keen on investing in it,” said Jarod Triplett, vice president of Skandia. “As owners look to improve the inflight experience, a turnkey acoustic kit is a great solution. And now they have it. The system utilizes our most technically advanced engineering and materials to produce a terrific result.

“We have created the system in a way that owner/operators can select how much sound performance they want to add based on their budget, or, how much weight they want to use. It’s an incredible solution that’s going to bring a lot of value to these great aircraft.”

Acoustic material options include fuselage skin and floor damping, thermal acoustic insulation bags, over frame blankets and carpet pad. Skandia also says it has developed an intuitive kitting process to make installation straightforward.

“We are very pleased with the Skandia sound/thermal insulation kit recently installed in our Pilatus PC-12,” said Scott Williams, a PC-12 owner and Skandia customer. “We have noticed a slight reduction in the perceived noise level in the cabin and a more significant improvement in its thermal insulation properties.

“The plane is quicker to heat when cold and quicker to cool when hot. The factory-original insulation materials were beginning to degrade due to their age of 16+ years. The Skandia insulation materials are of much better quality and should last longer. The end result is a more comfortable cabin for our passengers provided by a superior product which should last for several years.”
